DOYLE RICHARD "TOMMY" HAMPTON, age 67 of Athens, Tenn. went to be with the Lord at his home surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with cancer on Sunday, July 15, 2007.
He was a loving husband, father and papaw. He was a member of Knoxville Avenue Baptist Church where he taught the Adult Sunday School Class and loved to travel throughout the area sharing his love for Gospel Music. He was a well known Mechanic and owner and operator of Hampton Automotive until his retirement and was a veteran of the U. S. Army.
He was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, Tennessee and was preceded in death by Mother: Artie Burton Hampton Davis, Father: Henry Hampton, Step-Father: Granville Davis and Sister: Alma Coleman.
Survivors: Wife of 41 years: Wanda Bradford Hampton of Athens, Tenn. Daughter and Son-in-law: Tammy and Sheb Phillips of Sweetwater, Tenn. Three Sons and Daughters-in-law: Rev. Chris and Leigh Ann Hampton of Athens, Tenn. Terry and Dawn Baker of Riceville, Tenn. Tony and Karen Baker of Riceville, Tenn. Twelve Grandchildren: Christopher, Keely, Kelsey and Kaitlyn Hampton, Jessica N. and Corey Baker, Nick and Tony Baker, Jr., Tashia and Husband: Edgar Arbogast, Mareshah, Travis and Faith Phillips. One Great Grandson: Tery Arbogast and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral srvices 8:00 P. M. Tuesday in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Jones and Rev. Don Bradford officiating.
Interment will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday in McMinn Meory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Christopher Hampton, Travis Phillips, Tony Baker, Jr. , Nick Baker, Ed Arbogast and Michael Lankford.
The family will recieve friends Tuesday from 5-8 P. M.
