Clarence "Slim" Wyatt, 83, of Athens, departed this life on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Life Care Center of Athens, to meet his wife of 47 years, Grace Sneed Wyatt, in their eternal home.
He was born in McMinn County on July 21, 1925, to the late Lester Roy and Ada Mae Thomas Wyatt, and had made his home in his later years at Willow Acres Assisted Living in Riceville. He retired from Vestal Manufacturing in Sweetwater, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and Englewood Masonic Lodge. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, Ronald Wyatt; and two sisters, Mary Sue Plaster Toomey and Nanny Plaster.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and David Mason of Englewood; one son, Don Wyatt of Athens; three grandchildren and one spouse, Matthew and Missy Mason of Ashboro, N.C., Angela Mason of Englewood, and Chris Wyatt of Athens; three great-grandchildren, Cory, Kaitlyn and Noah Mason, all of Ashboro, N.C.; one sister and brother-in-law, Estelle and Dudley McDonald of Carrollton, Ga.; several nieces and nephews; and Willow Acres staff and friends.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Plaster, the Rev. Bob Thomas and the Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in McMinn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Matt Mason, Chris Wyatt, Cory Mason, Noah Mason, Bill Vicars, Dan Saffles, Jimmy Baker and Jerry Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the King David Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
