Charles Edward Dennis, 62, of Niota, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at his residence.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Hoyle and Edna Ruth Hampton Dennis. He was retired from Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant and was a former employee of Watts Bar Nuclear Plant. He was a member of Mt. Cumberland Church of God, and was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Jackson; and two brothers, Reed and George Dennis.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mae Rutherford Dennis of Niota; one son, Jason Dennis of Niota; two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Jamie Crabtree of Englewood, and Lorie and Dale Foster of Knoxville; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Creed and Linda Dennis and Raymond Dennis, all of Athens; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Ruth and Ransom Womac and Ruby Walden, all of Niota; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Hogan officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Clearwater Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be David Dennis, Allen Walden, Lee Mason, James Boggess, Nick Walden, Don Coleman, Sam Dennis and Glen Womac.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
