Charles Earl Brown, 72, of Athens, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Sweetwater Hospital.

A native of McMinn County, a former resident of Chattanooga, and a resident of McMinn County for the past 40 years, he was a son of the late Thomas Willard Sr. and Irene Nave Brown. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles E. Brown Jr. He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired construction worker. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW Post No. 5146 and Amvets.


Survivors include his wife, Sue Wallace of Athens; three daughters, Lisa McNair and Katherine Wael, both of LaFayette, Ga., and Cindy Ambercrombie of Rock Springs, Ga.; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary H. and Billy Buff of Pensacola, Fla.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth T. “Terry” and Dixie Brown of Niota, Donald E. and Jimmie Lee Brown of Etowah, and Jerry R. and Loretta Brown of Athens; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.


Pallbearers will be Tim Wallace, Jeff Wallace, Randy Wallace, Nick Daniels, Johnny Wayne Brown and Bill Snipes.


The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
