Cassie Baker Ellis, 70, of Athens, died Friday, April 25, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Roane County, moving here in 1944 from the Wheat Community in Roane County, and was a daughter of the late Dana Theadore and Ruth Sellers Baker. She was a former employee of Wall Chevrolet Company, Athens Stove Works and Athens Bed Company. She was a 1956 graduate of McMinn County High School, and was preceded in death by her husband, Darell Ellis, on Aug. 25, 2001. She was a former Sunday school and Bible school worker at Island Creek Baptist Church in Monroe County, Pond Hill Baptist Church and Old Pond Hill Baptist Church, and was a member of Marshall Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Dana Ruth Ellis of Athens; one sister, Frances Montgomery of Athens; one sister-in-law and husband, Gladys and Clyde Medford of Morristown; two nieces and spouses, Tena and Robert Riden and Teresa and Jeff Thompson, all of Athens; two great-nieces, Julia Riden of Murfreesboro, and Taylor Thompson of Athens; one great-nephew, Allen Riden of Athens; several other nieces and nephews of her husband, including Ruth McMillan Curtis and Hope McMillan Nicholson, both of Seymour; special friends, Bennie and Ross Ann Henderson, Jackie and Brenda Mason, Louise Mullins and Bob and Sharon Sykes.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Moore, the Rev. Van Sliger and the Rev. Joe Davis officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday in McMinn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Robert Riden, Jeff Thompson, Allen Riden, Bob Sykes, Jackie Mason and Brad McMillan. Honorary pallbearers will be L.R. Boyd, Frank Bagamary and Leonard Brock.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
