C. Elmo Stacy, 87, of Riceville, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at his home with his wife of 59 years by his side.

He was a native of Jay, Fla., and had been a resident of Riceville for 28 years. A son of the late Travis M. Simmons and Elberta Stanley Simmons Stacy, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Dewey H. Stacy; one daughter, Sandra Elaine Stacy; one brother, Douglas Simmons; one brother-in-law, Alexander Walters; one great-nephew, Travis Moudy; and one niece, Susan Marie Moudy. He was a member of the Church of Christ, was a retired engineer with the Pinellas County, Fla. Survey Department and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He loved hiking, camping and photography and was a member of several of these clubs. He also was an accomplished musician and songwriter.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Margaret E. Knowles Stacy of Riceville; one brother and sister-in-law, Glen C. and Betty Simmons of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Bonnie Walters of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two nieces and spouses, Janet and Howard Partridge of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Marilyn and Doug Hammonds of Las Cruces, N.M.; one nephew and spouse, Devon and Amy Simmons of Penscola, Fla.; three great-nephews; two great-nieces; and many great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Graveside services will be 1:00 P. M. Tuesday (noon CST) at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Ala. with Dr. Allen \"Bucko\" Walker officiating.

Active pallbearers will be Joel Knight, Micah Walker, T.J. Seales, Tommy Seales, Phillip Seales, Eddie Raymond and Tommy Knight.

There will be no formal visitation.
