Bruce E. Martin, 86, of Athens, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Jesse Richardson and Etta Ratledge Martin. He was employed by the City of Athens for 30 years and retired in 1985. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and was member of Valley Road Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one brother, James Martin.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Gladys McNabb Martin of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Swafford officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will David Palmer, Edd Cantrell, Bill Davis, Norman Eaton, Ron Skeen and Greg Hayes.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
