Bernice "Bun" Goodwin Elrod, 87, of Athens, died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Woods Memorial Hospital.

A native of Loudon County, and a resident of McMinn County for most of her life, she was a daughter of the late Hodrus E. and Sally Dykes Goodwin, and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert William Elrod, on March 4, 1991; two brothers, Wayne Goodwin and Rex Goodwin; and one sister-in-law, Maxine Goodwin. She was a member of North Athens Baptist Church, and was a retired employee of Van Raalte Hosiery Mill.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Teresa Elrod of Riceville; one sister, Alice McKinney of Athens; three grandchildren and one spouse, Mary Elrod, Nick and Lori Liner and Blake Liner; three great-grandchildren, Kelby Liner, Austin Liner and Lexi Liner; nieces and nephews and their spouses, Kenny and Barbara Goodwin, JoAnne and Dick Moormann, Sue and Frank Schaeffer, Jamie McKinney, Steve Goodwin, Wayne Goodwin, Sandy Harris, Deva Goodwin and Kitty Goodwin.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Kerr and the Rev. Tony Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Nick Liner, Dick Moormann, Jerry Elrod, Steve Goodwin, Wayne Goodwin and Russell Mahery. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of McMinn Memorial Nursing Home.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
