Ottis J. Gentry, 92, of Athens, died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

A native of Roane County, and a former resident of Meigs County, he had been a resident of McMinn County for most of his life. A son of the late Gerdine and Emily Messer Gentry, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and Carl Gentry; and three sisters, Myrtle Arnold, Geraldine Brown and Bonnie Guffey. He was an employee of Athens Furniture Company for 45 years and was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church. He loved his family, was a avid golfer and enjoyed working in his garden and reading. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Sudie Mae Brown Gentry of Athens; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara Chambers, Shirley and Eddie Watson and Judy and Ronnie Watson, all of Athens; three grandchildren and their spouses, Angie and Darren Ricks, Jason and Jean Watson and Keith Watson; eight great-grandchildren, David and Rachel Ricks, Taylor, Emily and Clara Watson and Taylor, Sydney and Eli Watson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Pete Mullins officiating. Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Watson, Eddie Watson, Jason Watson, Keith Watson, Darren Ricks and David Ricks.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
