Johnny McKheean, 99, of Athens, died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Life Care Center of Athens.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late George and Lillie McKheean. He worked for Walter Vincent Woodworks for several years and Woodcrafters. He was a member of West End Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Della Mae Jordon, in 1991; one son, Carl Edward McKheean, on July 15, 2007; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and James Peel; two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Underdown and Kathy Borum; seven brothers, George, Clifford, Riley, Eardie, Forrest A. \"Pete,\" Henry and Joe McKheean; three sisters, Della Farner, Mary Fagg and Alice Lattimore; and one infant sister.

Survivors include one son and two daughters-in-law, Bobby and Sally McKheean of Athens, and Earline Thompson McKheean of Athens, who he thought the world of; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Duggan and her husband, who was more like a son to him, Bobby, of Athens; one brother, Harold McKheehan of Athens; one sister, Rita Sue Leonard of Athens; five special granddaughters, Lisa Underdown and her husband, Tony, Mishele Perian and her friend, Travis Byrns, Camisa Duggan, Loretta Sneed and Carol Stokes; one grandson and his wife, Ricky and Susanna McKheean; and several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Life Care of Athens and Dr. William Bowers for their special care of Mr. McKheean.

Funeral services will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Emmitt Morgan officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Sunday in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Teddy Underdown, Daniel Underdown, Ricky McKheean, Travis Byrns, Tony Underdown and Jason Byrns. Honorary pallbearers will be Wilburn McDonald and Preston Sneed.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
