Ventola Haun, 85, of Athens, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at NHC Health Care of Athens surrounded by her family.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was born March 24, 1925, and was a daughter of the late Joe Peter and Lula Ethel \"Effie\" Culberson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Clinton Eugene Haun; one brother, Kenneth Culberson; and one grandson, Matthew Haun.
She was an active member of Pond Hill Baptist Church and was an avid gardener. She loved taking care of her family and was always giving more than she took and loving others more than herself.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Peggy Haun and Joe and Charlotte Haun, all of Athens; two brothers, Curtis Culberson and Bill Culberson, both of Englewood; one half-brother, Eddie Baxter of Englewood; one sister, Zilpha Coleman of Athens; one half-sister, Grace Malone of Niota; two grandchildren and their spouses, Travis and Amanda Haun and Stephanie and Robert McKenzie; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Haun and Aiden Haun; and several nieces, nephews, friends and her church family.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of NHC Health Care for years of care and support.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at McMinn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Randy Maddox officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Travis Haun, Robert McKenzie, Chad Simpson, Joe Culberson, Jerry Culberson and Perry Culberson.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home.
